Mission Statement

"To Create a strong robotics team at Lynnwood H.S. where team members: 1) have fun and feel welcome and important to the team; 2) learn necessary technical skills; 3) learn organizational and administrative skills; 4) spread FIRST's vision within our community and 5) compete effectively with 'gracious professionalism'."

Royal Robotics club is made up of student team members and adult mentors. It is a year-round program. The main focus is the FIRST Robotics Competition, known as FRC, each Spring. See Recruiting Info

The FIRST Robotics Competition begins after FIRST announces 'The Challenge' the first Saturday in January. Our team then has six weeks to design, make, program, and test a five-foot tall robot. This means we meet nearly every day after school and on Saturdays for these six weeks. Then we go to Regional competitions, usually in Seattle and Portland. If we win at either Regional, we can then go to the Finals.

We have also competed in FIRST Tech Challenge, called FTC, which happens in the Fall. FTC makes 18 inch tall robots. This smaller challenge is good training for the larger robots.

Along with the robotic competitions, there are several associated contests the team can do, like CAD, Computer Animation, Website, Safety, Business Plan, Imagery, Technical Innovation, Inspiration and more. In order to be successful, the team also needs to do recruiting, fundraising and training throughout the year. This program has something for everyone.

We strive to promote FIRST and its ideals year-round. We have mentored FIRST Lego League teams at Alderwood Middle School and hosted an FLL Regional competition at our school. We like doing teaching presentations at the public library, business sponsors, and elementary schools. We frequently bring Roy, our t-shirt shooting robot, to community, business and school events. We also write and visit local businesses and state legislators and talk about the importance of technology, science and math as applied in the FIRST program.

Our ultimate goal is to win the FRC Chairman's award which goes to the team which exemplifies FIRST's ideals.

We have regular monthly planning meetings each month in the Lynnwood H.S. library. See QUICK INFO section to see the calendar or to download more information from the Team handbook, bylaws, business plan, behavior contract, information pages and other forms.
